SU Theater Presents Murder With Grace
Southern Union’s Theatre Department will present Leon Kaye’s Murder With Grace on February 26, 27, 28 and March 1 at 7:00 p.m. CT in Brazeal Auditorium on SU’s Wadley Campus.
Set in the early 19thcentury, Murder With Grace tells the story of Grace, who is horrified when her brother is betrothed to Naomi, a shallow, silly girl whom Grace cannot stand to be around. She is loath to think that Naomi will soon be her sister-in-law, and so she and her good friend, Beth, devise a plan to manipulate Naomi by convincing her that another, much more affluent, young man named Henry is interested in marrying her. They set the plan in motion before they have actually met Henry, and it works too well – when Grace finally meets Henry, she falls head over heels for him! To make matters worse, Henry returns Naomi’s attentions! It seems that Grace’s only alternative would be to murder that retched girl – that would not be very mannerly… but what alternative does she have?
According to SU Theater Director Michael Williams, this is the stage debut of this play. “It was originally written for television, but was later adapted for the stage,” said Williams. “This is actually the first time this play has ever been performed on the stage.”
The cast of Murder with Grace includes: Skye Walker (Dadeville) as Grace Neville; Laura Etchison (Roanoke) as Beth Hobbs; Jeremy Chandler (Auburn) as Henry Huntington; Tatyana Newman (Auburn) as Naomi Tourneau; Alex Hubbard (Opelika) as Eleanor Huntington; Steven Sullivan (Auburn) as Colonel Huntington; Crayton Walton (New Site) as John Neville ; Jim Tyson (Wedowee) as Mr. Neville; Justin Brown (LaFayette) as Constable; and Zach Goodwin (Dadeville), Jay Phomsouvanh (Opelika), Steven Bryant (Talladega) and JerMichael Jones as Ensemble.
