SU Dancers Present Daisy This Week
The Southern Union Dancers will present their 2014 Dance Concert, Daisy, March 4-7, 2014, at 7 p.m. in the Renaissance Theater on the Wadley campus.
This high energy affair manages to incorporate many themes into a race through time as the dancers begin the show with selections mirroring the Gatsby Era and end with a modern hip hop routine. The styles range from musical theater inspired party scenes, tear jerking lyrical pieces, upbeat jazz routines, and a quartet tap dance piece.
Sonja Fincher, Director of Dance at SU, describes this year’s show as a “celebration of youth and renewal.” She goes on to say that there is something for everyone’s personal tastes within the show. Performances to the musical styling’s of Imagine Dragons, Lorde, and Coldplay are woven throughout the show along with an emotional performance to “Say Something” by A Great Big World. In conjunction with the dance performances, there will be musical solos by members of the Southern Union Sound.
The audience can also look forward to seeing guest soloist Ava Heard, first place winner of the 2013 Language and Fine Arts Tournament dance competition, who will perform with the Accelerated High School class.
In preparation for the show, the dancers learned routines from the following guest choreographers: Casey Cotney, Desmond Nunn, Anna Foshee-Walker, Megan Morch, Jennifer Boone Stone, Andrea Costa and Kanaan Hammet, all of whom are former Southern Union dancers, in addition to Jamie McCord-Keener and current SU dancer, Katie Bethune.
