Inaugural Unity Stampede set for April 11
Registration is now open for the inaugural Unity Stampede, a unique community event sponsored by Envision Opelika and Southern Union State Community College.
The Unity Stampede is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Opelika Sportsplex. This 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk/Wheel event will expand the popular Unity Run that has been sponsored by Envision Opelika in the past. All proceeds raised at this event will be used to fund Character Education through the Community Foundation of East Alabama, provide scholarships for students to Southern Union State Community College and to promote wellness and healthy lifestyles in the community.
The one mile fun walk/wheel event will take place at Opelika Sportsplex, and the route for the 5K run/walk will begin at the Sportplex, reach to Southern Union’s campus and then back to the Sportsplex. For those who enter before March 13, the entry fee is $22. For those registering March 13 or after the fee is $25 for the 5K. Event t-shirts are guaranteed to those who register by March 13. There is no charge to enter the one mile fun wheel, thanks to the generosity of event sponsors.
“We hope to make the event a family fun atmosphere. After the races, we will have the Steffi Ledbetter Band performing as well as vendors and other activities. People are encouraged to bring chairs and enjoy the festivities,” said Amy Rogers, Southern Union’s Health and Wellness Coordinator and race organizer.
Event festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. and the races begin at 5:30 p.m. CT. Registration is open for the event on Active.com. Simply search for "Unity Stampede 5K”.
