Remote Advising

Due to recent developments in the coronavirus pandemic and the need for social distancing, Southern Union is implementing remote advising. We will be using Google Hangout Meet until regular on campus activities and classes resume. 

Google Meet can be accessed through your Southern Union student email. We recommend that you use a laptop or desktop to make this easier. You do not have to download anything on a desktop or laptop since this software is a part of your current student email (G Suite). You must have access to a webcam and microphone to be able to utilize this service. 

To comply with FERPA, you will also be required to show your valid Southern Union student ID or another form of valid government issued photo ID before beginning a remote advising session. Maintaining the integrity of your academic record is of utmost importance to the college. Since these meetings are remote, advisors will not have access to your student records. You will need to provide your unofficial academic transcript and degree plan (both are available in MySUSCC).  This can be emailed directly to your advisor's appointment confirmation email by scanning, including screenshots, or copy & pasting your academic record to the email.  

Scheduling a remote advising session is simple:

  • Email your academic advisor with your meeting request
  • Your advisor will respond to confirm the meeting and send you the link you will use to access the session 
  • You will need to send your advisor your unofficial transcript and degree plan
