Nursing Program Information 

The Nursing Program admits students three times per year. Prospective students must meet the minimal admission requirements and apply for admission to the nursing program by the program's application deadline. See admission requirements for additional information.  

Links to online applications will be available by campus during the months below.  Online applications will only be accepted during this time.  

The  Nursing application windows are as follows:

  • For Summer 2025 Admission at the Wadley Campus only - month of February 2025
  • For Day Fall 2025 Admission at the Opelika Campus only - month of April 2025
  • For Night Fall 2025 Admission at the Opelika Campus only  -month of April 2025**** Click here for a proposed  schedule

Applications received outside of these dates will not be considered.

Application Submission Dates:
February 1-28, 2025 

   Applicants will be notified by email 4-6 weeks after the closing date. 

In order to complete the online application, you will need:

  •   Your highest ACT composite score report.  Must have a minimum score of 18.  We do not accept Superscores for ranking purposes in the Health Sciences programs.

  •  Grades from previous coursework.

  •  Course descriptions if requesting consideration of transfer credits from a college outside   Alabama.

   Verify ACT scores/transcripts have been received by viewing your student portal at mysuscc.

Professional Licensure Information:

The Southern Union State Community College Nursing Program has the approval of the Alabama Board of Nursing. The Registered Nurse and Practical Nursing curricula meet the state education requirements for a Registered Nurse and Practical Nursing license in the state of Alabama.

Professional Licensure in other states and territories:

Southern Union State Community College has not determined if the Nursing Program at SUSCC meets the Registered Nursing or Practical Nurse state education requirements in other states, any U.S. Territory, or the District of Columbia.  Students who reside in a state other than Alabama should contact the specific Board of Nursing in the state or territory where they plan to seek licensure to find additional educational requirements.

Effective July 25th, 2019, the Practical Nursing program at Southern Union State Community College located in Opelika, AL is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education and Nursing, 3390 Peachtree Rd NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30326; telephone (404) 975-5000. The most recent accreditation decision made by the ACEN Board of Commissioners for the ADN program is initial accreditation (2021).
